Butchers shop in Marchmont
Cuthill, the Butcher's in the Victorian suburb of Marchmont in South Edinburgh is one of the few shops in the area to have retained its original mid-Victorian frontage. The present-day City Council's attitude to conservation in this area can be judged from the "wheelie-bin" eyesore reflected in the shop's window. These communal bins were introduced across the city to rationalise refuse collection, but seem to be regarded by most Edinburgh people as a hideous addition to street furniture amid buildings of architectural merit.

Marchmont School
Building works on this old building at the junction of Marchmont Road and Marchmont Crescent. It had been part of Edinburgh Napier University Campus, but is now being developed housing. The original building dates from 1882.
