Waverley Telephone Exchange, Edinburgh (1)
Located at 12 East London Street, this TE dates from the early 1960s and has the code ESWAV. It provides telephone and broadband services to 14,540 residential and 1,380 non-residential premises in the East Central area of Edinburgh plus Broughton and Canonmills nearby. A green BT cabinet can be seen in front of this TE.

Waverley Telephone Exchange, Edinburgh (2)
This TE in East London Street, EH7 4BH is a Modernist building and a significant example of 1960's public architecture in Edinburgh. It was given Category B Listed status in November 2007. Above the door to the left can be seen a tiled panel. The TE used to have WAVerley numbers until the late 1960s, but now has 0131-556, 557 and 558 numbers, the (0131) referring to the Edinburgh group of twenty five TEs.

New Town street, about the area where the development ran out of steam. The buildings are newer than the usual New Town properties. The modern building is a telephone exchange (Waverley, now 556, 557 and 558 numbers).

Annandale Street Garage maintenance bays
Edinburgh has always taken pride in its well-maintained bus fleet and prompt acquisition of state-of-the-art vehicles. The new ecobus on the right was brought into service only a fortnight before this photo was taken.

Former Catholic Apostolic Church, Mansfield Place
The walls of the church are covered with murals by the Irish-born painter Phoebe Anna Traquair http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoebe_Anna_Traquair of the Arts and Crafts Movement. The building is now known as the Mansfield-Traquair Centre, named after the trust established to save it in 1993.
