Boswall House, Wardie
Once the property of an Edinburgh University Chancellor, the house's iron-railings, featuring the letter 'A' and anchor and trident motifs, belonged to the ocean-going liner 'Aquitania', launched by Clyde shipbuilders, John Brown, for Cunard's White Star Line in 1913.

Ornamental railings at Boswall House.
This was the home of Sir Donald Pollock, (1868-1962), benefactor to Edinburgh University. The Pollock Halls of Residence his bequest. Amongst much else he was chairman of Metal Industries, the shipbreaking firm and, when the Cunard liner "Aquitania" was scrapped, saved these railings and had them fitted around his garden wall. Crossed anchors can be seen in the photograph and elsewhere there are monographed letters A for "Aquitania".

St Columba's is one of two hospices in Edinburgh. Its aim is to improve the quality of life of people with progressive, far advanced disease and to provide support for their families. See http://www.stcolumbashospice.org.uk/. It is very highly regarded.
