Canal Feeder
At this point the water in the channel feeding the Union Canal at Lin's Mill vaniches underground into a tunnel, one of several on its way from the weir above the Pipe Bridge to the canal basin.

Gap in the Estate
The current map shows the houses on the left, but not those on the right. I am a little puzzled by this gap between their garden ground, for which there seems to be no reason. Perhaps time will tell.

Almondell Bridge
The ornate bridge over the River Almond is also known as Nasmyth Bridge and the design is attributed to the painter Alexander Nasmyth. It was built in about 1800, and collapsed in 1973. However it was complelety rebuilt in 1997 with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund. Unfortunately it was in deep shade today but others have photographed it in better light.
