Pyothall farmhouse
The view of Pyothall farm. This farm was once farmed by Abram Crawford Stewart (and before that his father Abraham Crawford Stewart). Abe Stewart, his wife Tina and family, moved to Essex in October 1926 and continued farming at Morehams Hall Image

Former shale line? Near Broxburn
This wide track along the field margin can perhaps be described with a bit more certainty as being of industrial origin. Over the crest of the hill was Pyothall No.6 shale mine while the near end joins the line of a disused railway by the roadside cottages.

An Inconspicuous Trig Pillar
I was in the process of getting my map out to find out exactly where this trig point was when I noticed it was actually just over the other side of the hedge about three feet away!
Trig points, I only recently discovered, are a fairly recent thing, the first one appearing in 1936 in order to do more precise mapping of the country. Each one has am official name - this one's is Pyothall, named after the nearby farm. The OS website doesn't keep records of when they were erected, merely when they were first computed, which presumably means when measurements were taken and heights ascertained. The date given for this one is 1947.
