Grangepans

Grangepans area
This gets its name from the salt pans associated with Grange House in early industrial days. Sea water was heated and evaporated leaving the salt which was used for the preservation of meat and fish.

Harrison Hall
In common with many mining areas, Bo'ness has a tradition of Brass Bands. The Bo'ness and Carriden Band practice here and the strains of well known classics can often be heard on "Band Night".

Side door to the railway
The track does not peter out here. When a new engine or coach arrives by road the gate is opened and the train guided from the low loader onto the line. Those who have had an OO gauge model train in the family will understand the procedure.

Starks Brae ( The Links )
Starks Brae Known locally as the Links runs from Grangepans up to Grange terrace.
The wall is the back wall to Ballantines foundry.
Special sand was tipped on the road and then shovelled through the square openings (now bricked up). The sand was used to form moulds which the hot metal was poured into to make cast iron gutters, manholes etc.

Bo'ness Railway Station
This station belongs to the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway (who run Steam train trips between here and Birkhill Claymine) and was originally the station at Wormit on the southern approaches of the Tay bridge before being brought to Bo'ness by the Scottish Rail Preservation Society when they started this railway. The Railway also includes a museum and fine views of the River Forth.
