Comely Bank Roundabout
Five roads converge here, four of them busy arteries. The Victorian building on the far side of the junction houses the Flora Stevenson Primary School http://www.florastevensonprimary.org/.

Flora Stevenson's, Comely Bank Road
Primary school (1899) named in honour of a Victorian champion of education for the poor, especially girls.

Within a week of this photograph being taken, the pupils were evacuated and 'rehoused' temporarily in a neighbouring school after workmen discovered asbestos in the building.

This little shop deserves a plaque honouring its service over the decades to the children of the Flora Stevenson Primary School opposite. I'm referring to the confectionery side of the business, of course, not the tobacco.

Modern Flats on Comely Bank
A mounted policewoman is overtaken by a motorcycle outside a modern block of flats on the south side of Comely Bank. This makes a pleasant change from trying to avoid images of blurred white vans obscuring the view.
