Scottish Railways : Newbridge Junction
The line to Bathgate and Airdrie diverge to the left as the photographer's train veers right on the main line to Linlithgow and Polmont. The approaching rail bridges carry the two separate routes over the spur of the M8 that runs up to meet the M9 at Newbridge roundabout.

Hillwood quarry from the air
The whinstone quarry at Ratho is a prominent landmark on final approach to Edinburgh Airport from the west. The main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line can be seen crossing the M8 motorway in the foreground, with the Bathgate line visible immediately beyond it. The large white structure in the distance is at Heriott-Watt University campus at Riccarton Image The Pentland Hills complete the scene, with the 493m Allermuir Hill being the most prominent.

Footpath under the railway
One of those hidden places that might not be noticed since, if one wanted to go to Newbridge or Ratho Station, one would not start from here. A small and probably little used path from the end of a long cul-de-sac, alongside the M8 and under the Edinburgh-Glasgow and Edinburgh-Bathgate railway lines. Probably a relic of an old minor road before the area was colonised by motorways.
