The whinstone quarry at Ratho is a prominent landmark on final approach to Edinburgh Airport from the west. The main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line can be seen crossing the M8 motorway in the foreground, with the Bathgate line visible immediately beyond it. The large white structure in the distance is at Heriott-Watt University campus at Riccarton Image The Pentland Hills complete the scene, with the 493m Allermuir Hill being the most prominent.
