Council Offices
The map suggests that this is the council offices, but a sign or two nearby hint that it might have been a library.

A Georgian House
I am trying to mae up my mind whether the bay window is original, or a 19th century addition. Probably the latter. The garage is a 20th century addition.

Reformed Presbyterian Church
Built in 1875 to a design by Glasgow-based architect Donald Bruce (1834-1919), this prominent Category B listed building is no longer in ecclesiastical use and was converted into flats in 2000. Its claim to fame is that it was one of the first buildings in Scotland to be constructed, not of stone, but of concrete blocks. That was not the original intention, but to keep the costs down the cheaper option of concrete, tooled to make it look more like ashlar, was taken. It cost between £2500 and £2600 to build.

St Margaret's School
This former Roman Catholic school is next door to the priest's house and in front of the church hall, the church itself being behind the priest's house. It was designed by Robert MacFarlane Cameron (1860-1920) and built in 1891.

St Margaret's Church
This unusually plain Roman Catholic church is oddly hidden away, the priest's house being between the church and the street. Its confined site also makes it extremely difficult to photograph. The architects were Charles Edwin Child (1843-1911) and George Goldie (1828-1887) of Sheffield and London, and the building dates from 1878.

Refurbishment, The Mayflower, Loanhead
The Image became EH Twenty, an Argentinian restaurant. It is now undergoing another change, requiring temporary traffic lights - those lovely three way ones that take for ever.
