Corner, Bonnyrigg Rose vrs Elgin City
A corner from the highest part of the pitch is about to directly hit the crossbar during a 1-0 win by Elgin City (black) As well as the slope there was a very strong wind to deal with blowing from the west (right). A combination of missed chances and a six point deduction for the slope led to Bonnyrigg finishing bottom in what was probably their best league season. They lost the playoff to East Kilbride. That points deduction was just mean.

The high corner, New Dundas Park
The uppermost bit of the sloping pitch with a small sheltered enclosure which was very much required today. The match was against Elgin City and a 1-0 defeat left Bonnyrigg Rose firmly stuck at the bottom of the SPFL. I was unaware at the time that Bonnyrigg had 6 points deducted for the slope and this led to their relegation to the Lowland League.

New Dundas Park, Bonnyrigg
Home of Bonnyrigg Rose, here playing East Fife (tartan shirts). The pitch has a very striking slope with the northwest corner much higher than most of the playing surface. The tactical approaches to the hill in the corner differed - East Fife stayed well away, while the home side used time honoured artillery tactics and often attacked the goal from above, avoiding the worst of the gradient by moving the ball along the touchline or playing a long ball. The match finished 1-1.

The slope, New Dundas Park
There is an appreciable slope all over the Bonnyrigg Rose football ground, but it is at its worst here with one corner flag in a reentrant between the pitch and a grass standing area with the other some metres higher with the goal line sloping southwards. Here Edinburgh City (yellow) are attacking with a rare visit to the top corner. Bonnyrigg Rose won 2-0 in a very poor match. In 2024 Bonnyrigg were deducted 6 points for the slope and were later relegated from the SPFL
