Union Canal, Wester Hailes
The canal was blocked here and a new cut was required to reopen the canal in the late 1990s. Looks peaceful, but beware high speed bikes, especially in the evening rush hour.

Union Canal Bridge No 6
This isn't the original Bridge No 6, of course, but a modern replacement. It carries Dumbryden Grove across the canal. In the background is one of the big blocks of flats at Hailesland.

Bridge at Dumbryden
The carvings on the side of Bridge No 6 make it clear that it crosses the Union Canal, and was built in 2000. In the background are the flats between Dumbryden Road and Dumbryden Grove.

Union Canal at Hailesland
This stretch of the canal is not only becoming partly obstructed by vegetation, but features a wide selection of litter and rubbish caught up in the vegetation. No doubt the canal weedcutter boat will be along shortly; but it seems the sort of thing that ought to be done in autumn and winter rather than late spring.
