Oxgangs Street
Part of a large housing scheme, dating from the 1960s(?), in the area of the old Oxgangs Farm. The 'Streets of Edinburgh' says an oxgang is an old Scottish measure of about 5 ha, which is the amount that can be ploughed by an ox-drawn plough in a year, which does not seem much. Another source says 'from old English law, an uncertain quantity of land, but, according to some opinions, it contains fifteen acres [6 ha]'.

Flats on Oxgangs Avenue
This is part of a very long terrace on the north side of Oxgangs Avenue, and it may be wonderfully comfortable to live in, but it looks like a bad example of the sort of concrete blocks that used to be the hallmark of the Soviet Union and its satellites. I wonder where, how and above all why local authorities train their architects to create such hideous buildings?
