Enjoying the Snow
On a fine winter Sunday there were literally hundreds of people of all ages sledging on the slopes above the playing fields at the Mary Erskine School.

The Beast from the East
This was the day of the red weather warning, 1 March 2018. The only things moving in Edinburgh were trees whopping about in the gale, an occasional ill-advised bird, and people sledging. Oh, and the trams and the No 100 airport bus. No Lothian buses, no Stagecoach buses, no trains, and next to no cars. Every so often there was a lightening of the obscuring snow showers, but just as I began to think about walking round the block, in would come another howling pea-souper, encouraging me to stay safely put.

The Beast from the East
On 28 February 2018, there was an unprecedented red weather warning for Central Scotland, and by the afternoon Edinburgh had more or less shut down, except for some children sledging in the grounds of the Mary Erskine School. This was in a brief moment of not-quite-so-bad visibility. Most of the time it was so murky that you couldn't see across the playing fields.

The large white building on the left is the golf club house. In the distance is the Castle, with the three spires of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in front of it. On the skyline at right is Arthur's Seat.

Grass pitch, The Mary Erskine School
The traditional hockey pitch with three all weather pitches beyond along with Corstorphine Hill. Today the grounds, along with craggy Ravelston Wood hosted a small orienteering event. This is one of the few areas which I have mapped for orienteering.
