View of Damien Hirst's "Temple" from Lime Street
"Temple" is a 21-foot painted bronze sculpture that weighs over three tonnes. It is a male torso which is partially exposed, revealing the muscles and organs inside. The artwork illustrates Hirst's long-standing interest in anatomical models, which were initially featured alongside pharmaceutical packaging and specimen jars in his early "Medicine Cabinet" series. "Temple" succeeds some of Hirst's other anatomical works, including 'Hymn' (1999-2005), which was inspired by a model which belonged to his son, Connor. Looking south-southeast.

View of 30 St Mary Axe aka 'The Gherkin'
Walking a little further along towards Tower Bridge on Tower Bridge Approach, this great contrast of old and new can be seen. In the foreground, we have one of the walls of the Tower of London, dating back to Roman times, and the building at 30 St Mary Axe (aka 'The Gherkin'). The Gherkin is in square TQ3381, but as Geograph prefers to have the subject location in the same square as the photographer, I have placed the subject position as close I could to the Gherkin's location at the top edge of TQ3380. View taken looking north-northwest.
