The Barbican
As well as an arts centre, The Barbican encompasses over 2,000 flats in a complex built on the architectural principles of Le Corbusier. Work started here in 1957 to redevelop a wartime bomb site and the buildings are now listed. The flats were originally owned by the Corporation of London, although 80% have now been sold and the proximity to the City of London inevitably makes them highly sought-after.
