The Old Shoreditch Station
This was a London Underground station in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The station closed permanently at the end of traffic on 9 June 2006.
It was the northern terminus of the East London Line, with latterly a single platform alongside a single track that ran next to the disused Bishopsgate Goods Yard.

Former North London Railway viaduct over Kingsland Road, London
Looking north from the end of Shoreditch High Street. This bridge used to carry trains from the now-defunct terminus of London Broad Street, but has had no track for over 20 years since Broad Street station was closed. However, the bridge will soon see trains again, for from 2010 the extended East London Line, which will be part of the new London Overground, will be using it.

Shoreditch: Old Street, looking west
From the junction with Shoreditch High Street, which on its way north changes its name to Kingsland Road. Behind the photographer lies Hackney Road.
The bridge over Old Street has been renewed and now carries a train every five minutes in each direction. These trains are on the East London Line of the London Overground. The railway here was originally part of the North London Railway leading to Broad Street, which was abandoned in 1986, but in 2010 reopened by virtue of a new connection to the old East London line, via a completely new station named Shoreditch High Street, some distance southeast of here. The former Shoreditch station of the North London railway was on this bridge, but was put out of use by enemy action in 1940 and never re-opened.
Beyond the bridge on the left is seen the ornate but decaying Shoreditch Town Hall. This building, which opened as the Shoreditch Parish Vestry Hall in 1866, was used by the Metropolitan Borough Council from its formation in 1899 until it became part of the London Borough of Hackney in 1965, although parts of the building remained in Council use for another thirty years. Put on the 'at risk' list in 1996, responsibility for the building passed to a Trust, which has started restorative work, and re-opened it as an events venue in 2004.

Shoreditch: East end of Old Street and Shoreditch Town Hall
Taken looking west from Shoreditch High Street, we see the bridge carrying the refurbished railway which is to open this May as part of the East London Extension line. The North London Railway Shoreditch station was here from 1865 when the line opened, but after war damage it closed in 1941 and never re-opened. Behind is seen the splendid Shoreditch Town Hall: This is presumably now the property of Hackney Borough Council, and not surprisingly they do not have enough money to refurbish it; it is sad to see fine buildings like this falling into decay, while millions are being spent elsewhere on so-called 'prestige' projects, such as The Shard at London Bridge.
