Club Row, Shoreditch, East London
Looking northwards towards Arnold Circus from the junction of Club Row with Old Nichol Street. In Victorian times, this area was one of London's most notorious slums, inhabited, according to Alan Jackson, almost entirely by criminals. It was all cleared away before 1900 and the area was rebuilt.

Boundary Street Estate, 1989
Long before the artists and creative types moved into Hoxton and Shoreditch; the area now (2013) looks considerably more spruce.
The Boundary Street Estate, one of London County Council's earliest housing estates, was opened in 1900 on the site of the Jago, one of London's most notorious slums.
