Turner's Old Star
Turner's Old Star is named after the artist JMW Turner. He inherited two cottages in Wapping and converted them into a tavern and called it 'The Old Star' and installed his mistress, Sophia Booth, as the proprietor. To maintain secrecy during their life together, Turner adopted her surname. As he was fairly short and portly he was known as Puggy Booth.
