Bethnal Green railway station, London
Opened in 1872 by the Great Eastern Railway on its line from London Liverpool Street to Broxbourne, this station replaced the 1843 station at Mile End, some 350m to the east. View east, although the line immediately curves sharply towards the north. Until 1946 there were a further two platforms to the right, on the original line (to Shenfield).

Liverpool Street - Chingford local train climbing up the bank into Bethnal Green Station
View westward, towards Liverpool Street; ex-Great Eastern main lines. All trains had to surmount about 1,200 yards of 1-in-70 approaching Bethnal Green, which could be a strain when starting 'cold' from the terminus - and made a fine sight of power. No. 69602 is an N7/4, one of the original ex-GE Hill N7 0-6-2T's, modified 1940+ with round-top boiler. There were 120 N7's altogether, which were nearly all allocated to Stratford Depot and were the mainstay of the intensive local services from Liverpool Street. Several, like this one, had their smokebox rings painted white. The train is just turning onto the Cambridge main line via Hackney Downs. Note that the use of white discs as headcode indicators.
