Woodseer, formerly Pelham, Street
I do not know when or why the name of this street was changed, or when and why the houses on the north side were, presumably, demolished at some point. In the 1870s Number 14 in the cramped terrace on the left was briefly home to my great-grandparents after their arrival from Russia, while next door lived the mother of one of Jack the Ripper's putative victims. This view is from the east looking towards the junction with Brick Lane. Some of the houses appear to be offices now, others private dwellings, no doubt a good deal more salubrious than in their earlier years.
