UEL, Stratford
A building that has gone through various educational ownerships; it opened in 1898 as West Ham Technical Institute, and became West Ham College of Technology in 1921. It amalgamated with the South East Essex Technical College in Barking in 1970 to become North-East London Polytechnic, renamed Polytechnic of East London in 1989. In 1992 that turned into the University of East London. Can you still do the same courses as six name changes and a hundred years ago? Just to really confuse things, in the evenings it magically turns into Birkbeck College, part of the University of London, as an element of a partnership http://www.bbk.ac.uk/prospective/stratford/ . The nearer part of the building has long served as the library.

Shakespeare in Stratford
But not that Stratford. This Coade stone statue is in the garden in front of Image The listed building description http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-204976-statue-in-garden-of-william-shakespear-a gives a date of 1846, but the inscription by the Bard's right foot seems to read 1840.

View of Deanery Road Children's Nursery from Water Lane
Somewhere on the corner of Deanery Road and Water Lane stood a German prisoner of war camp 100 years ago. I know this as I am currently volunteering for an oral history and community research charity in my local area on a project about two prisoner of war camps in Stratford - the other was on Carpenter's Road. Apologies that the shot was taken at night - I am coming back here to work again soon and so will get a daytime shot for better clarity. Looking west.

The Manby Arms
On the corner of ManbEy Street and Water Lane. There's also a Manbey Grove nearby, but my money is on the pub to have the original spelling. The weather is once again awful.
