Millwall Dock
Millwall Dock, in London's Docklands.
Millwall Dock opened in 1868. During the 1960s and 1970s, the docks gradually closed, replaced by container ports and air freight. After a period of lying derelict, London's Docklands were transformed by regeneration.
The lifting bridge to the right of the image was built to carry a road across the working dock. The large block of apartments is a far more recent addition to the scene.

Millwall Dock
Regeneration has transformed London's former docks into a busy hub for commercial and financial institutions. Amongst the modern high-rise buildings, two cranes can be seen to the right of the dock, reminding us of the area's history.
Just visible at the end of the dock is a Docklands Light Railway train leaving the station at South Quay.
