"The Grapes", Limehouse
A historic pub in Narrow St, Limehouse, The Grapes is currently part owned by actor Sir Ian McKellen. The famous staff used by Sir Ian as Gandalf in "The Lord of the Rings" films is displayed behind the bar. For a donation in a charity box, customers can have their photo taken with it. The pub is also the setting for the opening chapter of "Our Mutual Friend" by Charles Dickens in which it is described as "A tavern of dropsical appearance... long settled down into a state of hale infirmity. It had outlasted many a sprucer public house, indeed the whole house impended over the water but seemed to have got into the condition of a faint-hearted. diver, who has paused so long on the brink that he will never go in at all." Herring Gull sculpture and Booty's Bar, Narrow Street, Limehouse
Anyone with coastal connections or experience will be well aware of the rapacious and aggressive nature of the Herring Gull, well captured in this bronze on Narrow Street. On the other side of the road is Booty's Bar, just a few doors east of the 'Grapes' - see Image There is live jazz at Booty's on Saturday nights.

Bandstand, Ropemakers Fields, Limehouse
In Victorian and Edwardian times, every self-respecting park had its bandstand, and many still remain, though to what extent they are now used for their intended purpose is uncertain.
