Salmon Lane lock
A double lock recently refurbished.
Salmon Lane was formerly called Sermon Lane, possibly because it led to Stepney church. Alfred Hitchcock lived several childhood years there above the family fishmonger's shop.

Narrowboat at Salmon Lane lock
Tieing up the boat prior to operating the lock.
The footbridge by Buro Happold, replacing an earlier one, "spans just over 20m and has been designed for cyclist and pedestrian use with an asphalt surfacing. The use of twin steel arches accentuates the curved profile and results in a striking elevation. The structure is equipped with under-deck lighting and is supported on the refurbished brick abutments."

The Regent's Canal in Limehouse
Looking north from Commercial Road towards the Salmon Street bridge with a rescue ramp for frightened towing horses on the right - which might still be useful for distracted cyclists who have taken an accidental plunge!
