Pigeons on the Pavement, Green St
This photo was taken near Queen's Road Market, on Green Street. There are 3 signs in this picture that prohibit the feeding of pigeons but either people are ignoring them or the pigeons are finding plenty of food anyway.

The far end of the platform, at a lower height, is now disused. Only Underground trains now stop here, which are shorter than the occasional main line services which used to call here.

Upton Park station
The London, Tilbury & Southend Railway (LTSR) direct line from Bow to Barking (avoiding Stratford and Forest Gate) was constructed from west to east in 1858. Upton Park station was opened by the LTSR in September 1877 but was actually built by a property developer called Read. The building was demolished in 1903/04 when the line was quadrupled and the present station constructed. The Whitechapel & Bow Railway allowed through services of the Metropolitan District Railway to operate through to Upminster from 1902. The Metropolitan District converted to electric trains in 1905. The Metropolitan District Railway was incorporated into London Transport in 1933, and became known as the District line. The Hammersmith & City (at that time part of the Metropolitan line) first served the station in 1936. The Fenchurch Street to Southend service was withdrawn from 1962 and the platforms used by that service have been abandoned since that date. This view from the London-bound platform looks in the direction of Plaistow which is the next station.
