The brick wall on the left surrounds an open section of the tunnel at Shadwell Overground station, seen from the station platform in Image Shadwell was formerly a station on the East London section of the London Underground.

Overground going underground!
A northbound Overground train disappears into the tunnel at Shadwell Station. The platform is here open to the sky, albeit at the foot of a deep shaft.

Shadwell (East London Line) railway station
Opened in 1876 by the East London Railway on the line from New Cross to Shoreditch, this was part of the London Underground until 2007 when it was closed for rebuilding. From 2010, the reopened line was part of London Overground. View north towards Whitechapel and Shoreditch.
