Leyton station
Leyton station was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway on 22nd August 1856 when it was called "Low Leyton". It was renamed Leyton on 27th November 1868 by the Great Eastern Railway. The current station buildings largely date from the reconstruction of 1879, which saw the original level crossing replaced by a bridge. It was transferred from the London & North Eastern Railway to London Underground as part of the eastern extensions of the Central line and was first served by the Central line on 5th May 1947. This view from the London-bound platform looks towards Leytonstone.

Leyton Underground station, Greater London
Opened in 1856 as "Low Leyton" by the Eastern Counties Railway, later part of the Great Eastern Railway, on the line from London Liverpool Street to Loughton. The station was given its current name in 1867, rebuilt in 1879 and became part of London Transport in 1947. View south west towards Stratford and London. Like 55% of the London Underground network, this part is actually overground.
