Streetlight replacement on Wanstead High Street
Wanstead High Street received a streetlight replacement programme in October 2008 as the old Thorn Alpha 3 lamp posts dated from the 1960s and so were starting to suffer a lot of wear and tear. The new lamp posts are Urbis Karl Johans - quite attractive, which I am pleasantly surprised about as I thought Redbridge council would go for plain, boring installations which you see virtually all over the rest of the borough. View taken looking north-northwest towards Snaresbrook tube station. Wanstead tube station is just behind me in the photo. Note, however, that Snaresbrook station is on the Leytonstone-Woodford branch of the Central Line while Wanstead is on the Central Line mainstream. Therefore, although both stations are served by the same trains and London Underground line, they are actually both on two very different routes.
