Derelict New Foundry, Stourbridge
This is an important building on several levels. An ironworks was established here in 1800 by john Bradley, later joined by James Foster and John Rastrick. This building is the "New Foundry" and dates from 1820 with a spectacular composite cast and wrought iron roof structure. The locomotive Agenoria was built here in 1828 and Stourbridge Lion in 1829 (the first loco in America). The building has now been restored and is in use by a health centre.

Former foundry, Stourbridge

This building is the "New Foundry" and dates from 1820 with a spectacular composite cast and wrought iron roof structure. The locomotive agenoria was built here in 1828 and Stourbridge Lion in 1829 (the first loco in America). It has now been converted to a health centre and pharmacy and there is apparently some interpretative material within to explain its significance. An earlier view is here - Image

This side facing the canal was obviously the main facade as it is the only one with a central pediment containing a circular window. This building was obviously suffering and had been braced in places. It has now been restored and is used as a health centre. I have seen the restored building from a distance but not yet got closer.

What was quite grim and in danger of being lost now has a new purpose.

The banks of the River stour are in the foreground.

Derelict industrial building off Bradley Road, Wollaston, Stourbridge
This is the front of a very long industrial building, still remaining on a site between Bradley Road and the nearby River Stour, from which other buildings have been demolished. Photographed through the fence on Bradley Road.

Bridge over the River Stour
A cast iron bridge leading towards the derelict New Foundry. The foundry has been redeveloped as a health centre and I hope this interesting bridge has also been retained. This was not a very salubrious area when I photographed it.
