This public house had been closed for some time when this photograph was taken, and was on the market as licensed premises. It was a traditional pub with the downstairs divided into a bar area, lounge, tap room and games room. There is a small beer garden at the front, plus rear gardens. Oreton is such a small place and a bit off the beaten track, so making the business viable would not be easy. Some other pubs in the area have also closed in recent years. Originally the building, which is about 200 years old, was used as a prison for Oreton & Farlow. It should perhaps be mentioned that some aerial maps are identifying the wrong building as the New Inn, but this is the correct one! Update:- The New Inn re-opened on the 11/10/2014 after apparently being closed for almost 9 years! Possibly this is some kind of record but it's good news. The pub sells local beers from Hobsons Brewery and does basket meals at times. Image

After a long period of closure this traditional country pub re-opened on the 11th October 2014. It has a pool table, two real ales on handpumps and offers meals in a basket at certain times. It narrowly escaped the fate of being turned into a ceramics workshop. The building is about two hundred years old and was originally the local prison for Oreton and Farlow. Image

This is a rare case of a rural public house re-opening, although this has happened in Shropshire a few times in recent years. With the re-opening in October 2014, the signage was restored, albeit slightly altered from its previous appearance. There is a similar sign on the other side of this part of the building. Presumably there was once another pub nearby to justify the New Inn name. If so, it has long disappeared, but most people will be grateful that this very traditional and friendly pub is up and running again. Image

A rare survivor at Little Stocking - a kiln for making bricks. There is a flooded clay pit round the back and an adjoining smithy and saw bench set up. This is the view from the road but we were allowed in to have a look and were grateful for this rare opportunity. The structure is not listed but the house opposite is built of bricks fired in this kiln.
