Two advertising posters for Tesco on fence, Severn Road, Stourport-on-Severn
The boundary fence on Severn Road for the Tesco supermarket under construction now has several different posters advertising various alleged benefits of shopping at their supermarkets. These two posters are typical of the series.

White Lion Court, Lion Hill
This listed building on the corner of Lion Hill and Lodge Road was formerly licensed premises known as The White Lion. The metal pole, which can still be seen above the front left bay window, would originally have had a sign attached. Today the building is divided into residential flats which are let.
Stourport-on-Severn has had at least 64 public houses over the years, and today about 20 survive. As well as a White Lion it had a Red Lion in Gilgal, which still survives today as The Steps House. Sadly though, the Red Cow is long gone.
Update January 2011:- The building has recently been repainted, and gained a sign. See:-

Corner of Mitton Street and Severn Road
Behind these yellow railings lies the extensive site of the former Carpets of Worth (Bond Worth) carpet factory. At one time the company was manufacturing in three towns. As well as this site, there were factories in nearby Kidderminster and at Stroud in Gloucestershire. The company was noted for its Axminster type carpets.
The Stourport factory closed some years ago and has been demolished. It seems likely that a new Tesco supermarket and petrol station will be built on part or all of the site. This has proved extremely controversial because many people are concerned that this will destroy a large number of the many independent shops which Stourport still possesses. There are also concerns that the store will make the town's traffic congestion even worse. But other people have welcomed the new store, even though there is already a small Tesco in the town. Some good news for Tesco is that one of the three existing petrol stations in the town recently closed.
