Mini-roundabout, Millfields Drive
The mini-roundabout is where Millfields Drive meets Mill Road, which is the road coming in to the roundabout, on the left and right sides of the picture. Millfields Drive is built on part of the route of the former branch railway line to the now demolished power station by the River Severn. Both were part of the town's history, and there are a few reminders left.
Image
At the present time, the sole purpose of Millfields Drive, is to act as an access road to nearby residential areas. In happier times, before the current economic crisis, it was seen as potentially part of a relief road for the town. For various reasons, including the lack of money for a second crossing of the River Severn, it was regarded by many people, as a bit of a pie-in-the-sky scheme. Now it seems highly unlikely that it will be proceeded with for decades, if ever.

Former off-licence and shop (2) - detail, 77 Mill Road, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs
On the left wall some wording can be made out but the only word that seems to be clear is Stouts. This presumably dates from the time when the building was used as an off-licence and shop.

Public footpath to The Spinney, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs
This public footpath links The Spinney and Mill Road. The building along the footpath was until the late 1960's used as an off-licence and shop. But previously, in late Victorian times, it was apparently used as a brewery. See:-

Former off-licence and shop (1), 77 Mill Road, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs
In late Victorian times the building was a family-run brewery, but later for many years it was an off-licence and shop. It closed in the late 1960's. Currently it is for sale as a redevelopment site. There is no current planning permission in force for the site, but the estate agents handling the sale seem to think that a residential development might be favoured. The building, which includes No. 75 at the western end, is apparently in poor condition and will probably be demolished at some point. It is not listed.

Former off-licence and shop (3) M & B sign, 77 Mill Road, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs
A very faded Mitchells & Butlers sign can still just about be made out on this wall of the former off-licence & shop. M & B still exist but no longer brew their own beers. Today they concentrate on running public houses, restaurants and the like.

Former off-licence and shop (5), 77 Mill Road, Stourport-on-Severn, Worcs
This is the view of the former off-licence and shop from The Spinney. The vegetation is so out of control that not a great deal can be seen. However there does seem to have been some kind of tower structure, which possibly dates from when the building was used as a brewery in late Victorian times.
