Portland Y.M.C.A.
The movement began after a meeting shortly after the end of WWI, with the Countess of Malmesbury officially opening the 'Triangle Hut' on December 20th, 1919. The hut itself was used by the Australian army camp near Chickerell during the conflict. The organisers were fortunate that the funding was achieved quite quickly and the centre was well attended. A windfall allowed the organisation to purchase the site, but the hut was proving costly to maintain. With some lottery funding help this new building was opened on 14th February, 1998.

A rivetted bridge in Easton
On Reforne is a hint of a lost past: the iron bridge spans the old railway line that operated on the Portland plateau, connecting the villages and the many quarries.

The St George's Centre
Originally built in 1857 as a school, it continued until 1972. Built to take over 400 pupils, it was eventually closed and left abandoned, falling victim to decay, weather and vandalism. Local people made efforts to form a trust and took over in the early 1980s, converting the facilities into a community centre. A benchmark can be found below the stone tablet - see Image Grade II listed.
