The movement began after a meeting shortly after the end of WWI, with the Countess of Malmesbury officially opening the 'Triangle Hut' on December 20th, 1919. The hut itself was used by the Australian army camp near Chickerell during the conflict. The organisers were fortunate that the funding was achieved quite quickly and the centre was well attended. A windfall allowed the organisation to purchase the site, but the hut was proving costly to maintain. With some lottery funding help this new building was opened on 14th February, 1998.
