Easton Methodist Church
Methodism came to Portland in about the 1740s and grew slowly as did the local population. By the turn of the 1900s there was sufficient impetus to found a new church here in Easton. A couple of old cottages were demolished to make way for the new church in 1906, with foundation stones being laid later that year. Plans were drawn up by Latrobe and Weston of Bristol, which unusually included a lecture room, minister's vestry and a ladies parlour. Local stone from Hibb and Bower quarries was used by Wakeham Brothers of Plymouth (they also built nearby St George's) and the cost came to £5,097. The 900-seat church is Grade II* listed.
