Thomas Hardy Locations, Far From the Madding Crowd (3)
This is the Dorchester Union Work House, where Fanny struggled, with the help of a dog, to get some shelter just before she died. At the time it was reputed to have one of the best views in Dorset from its front step. It is now part of Dorset County Hospital.
