Hardy Locations, The Statue, Dorchester
Hardy's statue stands at the top of The Grove close to the Top-of-the-Town roundabout. He looks over to the block of flats opposite named Henchard Court after the eponymous wife seller in his book "The Mayor of Casterbridge"

Thomas Hardy statue in Dorchester
On the east side of The Grove, near the corner of High West Street. The inscription is THOMAS HARDY 1840-1928. The novelist was born in a hamlet near Dorchester and died in Dorchester. Although the places that appear in his novels exist, he gave many of them a fictional name. For example, Hardy's Casterbridge is Dorchester.
