Old Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester
In Somerleigh Road off Princes Street, the old county hospital designed by Benjamin Ferrey FSA and built in Portland stone in 1841, has now been converted into flats which are very convenient being so near to the centre of town.
Benjamin Ferrey (1810-1880) studied under Pugin and became Diocesan Architect to Bath and Wells. He was also commissioned in 1836 to design the area in Bournemouth known as Westover, including the Bath Hotel.

Plaza Cinema Trinity Street
One of the nicest and best value Cinemas anywhere. In London you might have to pay more than Ten pounds to see a new release major film but here you can see them for just £3.50 at weekends and £2.50 during the week (Jan 2012). The art deco design frontage makes it even nicer. These prices were still the same in January 2013.

The fruit and vege stalls are still there today in South Street. This photograph was taken before 1981 as that is when the Methodist Chapel was demolished which is visible on the left. It has been replaced by "The Works" discount book shop on the corner of Durngate Street.
