This may be only the second time I have visited the fine old market town with its Roman connections, which is my fault. It is reminiscent of the Georgian town of Cheltenham.

Market Day Dorchester
Wednesday is market day. It looks as if the heavens are about to open on all that cloth and fabric. In the distance one can see the roofs and chimney of Pope's Brewery.

A glimpse of South Lodge - Dorchester
South Lodge is a gracious house built mid 18th Century and is situated behind a tall fence on South Walks near the town centre. It is thought to have been designed by the Bastard brothers of Blandford Forum in about 1750. Grade II listed.

New Expensive Luxury Offices for local Council
This shows work starting on the new West Dorset District Council offices on the old Charles St car park which are being built at excessive expense with taxpayers' money. In the background are the trees of South Walks which mark the line of the old town wall of Dorchester.

Dorchester: postbox № DT1 85, South Walks Road
This Victorian postbox, of the distinctive hexagonal 'Penfold' design, stands by the corner of South Walks Road and South Street, and is embedded further than usual into the tarmac. It is emptied finally at 5:30pm on weekdays and at 11:30am on Saturdays.
