Mowbray Commemorative Stone, Epworth
This photo shows the commemorative stone in the churchyard outside St Andrews Parish Church. It has been erected by the Epworth Magna Carta 800 Society, presumably in 2015 to mark 800 years of the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede in 1215. The blue circular disc on the stone has the following wording: THE 12th CENTURY MANOR HOUSE OF WILLIAM DE MOWBRAY (1173 - 1224) STOOD HERE ON THE VINEGARTH ESTATE HE WAS ONE OF THE 25 BARONS ENTRUSTED WITH THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE TERMS OF MAGNA CARTA At the front end of the stone can be seen the arms of the Mowbray family with a demi lion rampant on a red background.

Information Board in St Andrew's Parish Churchyard
This photo shows the information board near the Rev Samuel Wesley's tombstone. It has the following wording: The Grave of Reverend Samuel Wesley Left column Here Lieth all that was Mortal of Samuel Wesley AM he was Rector of Epworth 39 Years and departed this life 25 of April 1735 Aged 72 As he liv'd so he died in the true Catholic Faith of the Holy trinity in unity and that Jesus Christ is God incarnate and the only Saviour of mankind Acts 4-12 Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord yea faith the Spirit that they may rest from their labours and their works do follow them. Rev 14 - 15 The main image shows the Rev Samuel Wesley and his tombstone with a plan of the church and churchyard. The wording at the top of the image is as follows: It was in the former Rectory that John Wesley was born in 1703 and Charles in 1707. They were to become the founders of the Methodist Church. Samuel Wesley, their father, was Rector of Epworth from 1696 to his death in 1735. He was buried outside the south door of the chancel (the grave with a black iron rail around it). Here during the summer of 1742, when not allowed to officiate within the church, John preached from his father's tomb and did so on several occasions when he visited Epworth. At the lower right hand corner, there is the following wording: Please do not stand on the grave to avoid causing further erosion of the surface.
