Askern railway station (site), Yorkshire
Opened in 1848 on the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway's line from Doncaster to Knottingley, and closed to regular passenger traffic in 1947, some excursions still used the station until around 1984.
View north west towards Knottingley and Wakefield. A fragment of platform still survives in the middle distance.

The Railway, Askern
Stands like a stranded ocean liner on Moss Road. I would guess it was built just at that point when Askern's future changed radically from being a minor spa to an important pit village.

It occurs to me that this rather bland building needs is some architectural feature which echoes the strong shadow cast by the tree on the opposite side of the road.
