Great North Road at Markham Common
The road to the left is now something of a backwater since the opening of the modern A1, but would have formed the main link to Sheffield for London based traffic. Straight ahead is the former A1, now the A638 to Retford

Tiny nave and chancel all in one. The south door is much decayed but obviously Norman with a holy water stoup to the right.

Milestone at Markham Common
Dated to the early 19th century, Listed Grade II. There are no visible inscriptions on the stone. Markham Common was the crossing point of the Great North Road (later A1) and the Sheffield to Lincoln main road (later A57) where 4 separate turnpike trusts met. Due to modifications to the road junction it is not in its original location.

Old Milestone by the former A638, Old London Road, Markham Moor
Carved stone post by the UC road (was A638 or A1), in parish of WEST DRAYTON (BASSETLAW District), Old London Road; Markham Moor, at junction with the A638, 50m East of Meadow View, on the verge, on South side of road. Markham pillar, erected by the North Road, North Division turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription not known. Grade II Listed.
