St.Hibald's church, Hibaldstow, Lincs.
Hibaldstow literally means 'the burial place of Hibald'. St.Hibald was Abbot of Bardney in the 8th century, though why he was buried here is unclear. During the chancel rebuilding in 1864, the skeleton of a 'tall and powerful man' with a crozier was found in a stone coffin .... reputedly St.Hibald. The nave is by prolific local Victorian architect James Fowler in 1875 with a new tower added in 1958-60.
