Railway Remnant - Thorn Lane, Goxhill
This is a remnant of the Barton and Immingham Light Railway (BILR) which was a single track line between Immingham West Junction and Goxhill. The passenger service opened in 1911 with some seven trains each way on weekdays and with an extra on Saturdays. There was no Sunday service. Up to closure in 1963 a fairly reasonable service of five round trips ran between Immingham Dock and New Holland Pier (ferry terminal for Hull), an extra trip was operated on Saturdays. Diesel railcars provided the services which were not heavily used and became a victim of rationalisation in June 1963 when the service was withdrawn.

The Humber estuary from the air
Two former RAF airfields can be seen this side of the river. The brown V shape below the bend in the river is the former RAF Goxhill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Goxhill . Former RAF North Killingholms https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_North_Killingholme can be seen nearer the oil tanks, towards the lower right corner. Barrow Upon Humber and the Immingham oil refineries are also visible this side of the Humber. Kingston Upon Hull is on the opposite bank, with the North Sea visible beyond the coast.

Goxhill - South End
Picture taken looking East. The building in the background towards the right is Goxhill Priory, otherwise known as Goxhill Hall. Unfortunately the Priory is much obscured by trees and it not possible to get a better view.
