Station Road with War Memorial
Station Road lies between Rawcliffe, which lies ahead along the road, and Rawcliffe Bridge which is behind the camera position. The war memorial stands at the left side of the image and records names of war dead "...of this Parish", which presumably includes both villages.

War Memorial, Rawcliffe
Beside the station which is now all but closed. This part of the village must have been much more important in the 1920s when the memorial was erected.

Rawcliffe railway station, Yorkshire
Opened in 1848 on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's line from Wakefield to Goole. The former second platform is hidden in the undergrowth. This apparent rural scene is spoiled by the incessant noise of the M62 beyond the trees.

Rawcliffe Station
Little used in recent years as trains from Goole to Leeds have been slowly withdrawn, the service abandoned altogether in response to the COVID crisis. Few may have noticed! At the time this picture was taken there may be a daily coal train between Hull docks and Drax power station, but that is being wound down in favour of using wood pellets.
