The cemetery, on the Sheffield - Doncaster main road, was opened in 1892. It belongs to the Conisbrough and Conisbrough Parks Joint Burial Committee.

Cadeby Colliery Disaster Memorial at Conisbrough
The Cadeby Main Pit Disaster was a coal mining accident on 9th July 1912 at Cadeby Main Colliery killing 88 men. Early in the morning of the 9th July 1912 an explosion in the south-west part of the Cadeby Main pit killed 35 men, later in the same day after a rescue party was sent below ground another explosion took place killing most of rescue party. Twenty eight of the victims are buried in Conisbrough Cemetery and this memorial was erected in their memory a hundred years after the event. The tragedy occurred in the same year that "The Titanic" went down but who remembers dead miners?
