West Burton houses [1]
Once one house, now two, Galloway House, The Green, was built circa 1830. Constructed of coursed rubble stone with sandstone ashlar dressings under a stone slate roof. The first bay projects with quoin and has an embattled parapet. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1178969 West Burton is a small, picturesque village around a large green in Bishopdale, North Yorkshire. It is situated about 6½ miles southwest of Leyburn and some 9¼ miles east of Hawes. Walden Beck runs past the eastern edge of the village to join Bishopdale Beck on its way to the River Ure. There is evidence of settlement nearby back to the Iron Age. The village was once an important market town for those working in the lead mining and stone quarrying industries.

West Burton Mill
The former corn mill at West Burton stands high above Walden Beck, from which water was fed via a mill race leading from the plunge pool below Cauldron Force. The extension nearest the camera marks the former site of the water wheel.
