Located at the far north end of the High Street near to the Low Gates level crossing on land that was once the railway marshalling yards.

One piece of old wall left standing at the southern end of what is now Sainsbury's car park in the "north end" of Northallerton. I am curious as to the value of including brick courses amongst the cobbles. It could be that the wall was built in stages and the brick courses were to ensure it was built level. John Webb adds (though this is not a flint-based wall): "The brickwork is included to strengthen the wall and link through from one side to the other. Flint-based walls need this strengthening to ensure they stand upright, as basically they are a heap of stones being held together by mortar - usually lime mortar rather than more modern cement."

A view of the east side of "north end" (that part of the High Street north of the church). The Standard pub has a sign Image linking its name to "The Battle of the Standard" though I don't recall that from my days of drinking here in 1970.

Quaker Lane links the north end of the High Street A167 to Brompton Road A684 and can be used sometimes as a rat-run to avoid the heavier traffic in Friarage Street. I have never been able to find out why it is called Quaker Lane.

Opened in 1852 by the Leeds Northern Railway, soon to become part of the North Eastern Railway, on the line from Leeds to Middlesbrough, this short-lived station closed in 1856 when trains were diverted into the current station. View south west from Low Gates level-crossing towards the junction with the East Coast Main Line and the location of the current station.

This short terrace faces out on to the green on the north side of the parish church. The group is known as the North Arch and were once residences of the mid 18th century. Grade II listed. This area to the west of the church is still part of the High Street.

Taken from the narrow footbridge. To the right before the crossing there used to be a goods yard with raised coal depositing lines where lorries could load up beneath the wagons.
