River Wiske at Birkby
The tiny River Wiske meanders its way down through the Vale of Mowbray to eventually join the Swale. During the wet autumn of 2019 it frequently burst its banks and flooded agricultural land, but at this point it appears to have been contained.

Through the trees to St Peter's Church
The church is largely of 1776 with some alterations and additions, such as the porch, of 1872. Birkby is no more than a hamlet with less than 50 inhabitants, however it was mentioned in Domesday and there are traces of a more extensive medieval settlement nearby.
